Christopher and Susan Lange, along with their family moved to Somerset, Kentucky in March of
1998 when they purchased New Bros. Funeral Home. Chris has been involved in funeral service
as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 25 years. He is involved in community
affairs in a multitude of ways, including civic organizations such as the Rotary Club,
Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and an active member of First Baptist Church
in downtown Somerset. His love is for the children of the community and he is an active
supporter of all Pulaski County athletics for children from kindergarten through high school
in this wonderful county.
Susan Lange is in her seventh year of teaching second grade at the Somerset Christian School
where she is also impacting the lives of children throughout Pulaski County.
Chris and Susan have four children: Sarah Lange is in her fourth year at the University
of Kentucky studying accounting. Andrea Lange is in her second year at the University
of Kentucky and her major is undecided; Alex Lange is a freshman at Somerset High School
where he is involved in football, basketball, baseball and student government;
Will Lange is in the seventh grade at Somerset's Meece Middle School where he
also is involved in football, basketball and baseball.
The Lange family is proud to be the only family owned, operated and managed funeral home in
Pulaski County. As the owners of Lange & New Bros. Family Funeral Home, the Lange
family is honored to minister to the families of Pulaski County in very difficult and
sad times.
Lillian Bowles
Lillian Bowles is one of our newest employees. She and her husband, James, have lived in Somerset
for 40 years. They have two daughters, Gina & (Robert) Sears and Jamie (Greg) Smith. They
also have four grandchildren.
Lillian is very active in the First Baptist Church. One of Lil's most enjoyable passions is serving others.
Sonny Claunch
Sonny Claunch was raised in the Eastern Pulaski County Community of Flat Lick. This is the same
community where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Janet Avera. In 2006 they celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary.
Sonny & Janet have three daughters and three grand-daughters. Sonny enjoys gardening and spending
time on his farm.
Anthony Gaines
Anthony Gaines is the newest assistant at the funeral home after recently retiring from the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet where he put in 30 years. He is the son of Robert and Buelah Gaines and is a
lifelong resident of Somerset, graduating from Somerset High School in 1977. He is a member of the
Army National Guard and a member of South Maple Street Baptist Church and a member of Ionic Lodge #65.
Anthony has one daughter, Natalie Smith and six brothers and sisters; Terry Gaines, Mitch Gaines,
Tim Gaines, Cynthia Milligan, Glenda Rankin and Paula Stigall.
Betty Burton
Betty Burton has been with the funeral home as a greeter and assistant since we opened in 1991.
She was born in Eastern Kentucky and moved to Pulaski County many years ago and has spent most of
her life in Somerset. She is the mother of three children, Darla Bradley, Rick Dillman and Greg Dillman.
Mattie Petrey
Mattie Petrey has worked at the funeral home since January of 2002. She was raised in Mt. Vernon,
Kentucky the daughter of Vallie Griffin Burton and the late George F. Burton. She has lived in Pulaski
County for over 30 years. She and her husband Danny attend Victory Christian Fellowship in Somerset. They
enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, Samantha, Zack and Morgann and spending time on their farm.
Mattie has always had a passion to help people in difficult times. She feels that working at the funeral
home is her ministry.
Wanda Girdler
Wanda Early Wilson Girdler has worked as an assistant at the funeral home for over 5 years. She is a
lifelong resident of Pulski County and worked at the hospital for many years. She loves to talk to
people and listen to their stories. Wanda has two children, Connie Burks and Billy Wilson Jr. and several
grandchildren. She also has 6 brothers and sisters. She thouroughly enjoys working at the funeral home.
